There's a lot of information on those sites, so be prepared to lose yourself for a while! They should have some newbie-friendly stuff for you to dig your teeth into. For templates, there are some very simple but professional freebies at Theme Hybrid (http://themehybrid.com/) or you can purchase gorgeous themes for $45 a pop at Template Monster (http://www.templatemonster.com/category/wordpress-themes/), and there are tons to choose from. I don't use any photo management plug-ins (I crop/resize the photos myself, upload to a folder on my site, then add them to my posts using a simple bit of HTML code). If a code snippet would help you out, just let me know! Getting a logo/theme custom-made will depend on how much you want to spend. elance.com, rentacoder.com, getafreelancer.com, etc all have places where you can post project requests for a logo and theme, or you could go the Craig's List route.
