A name you can trust!

A name you can trust!

I’m going to do a short series of posts on eHow.  Now, I’ve already talked about why people click, and I’m sure everyone has their own opinion on why they do, each one different.

We may not agree on what exactly makes a person click.  But I’m sure we can all agree on those things that make a person NOT click an ad, in fact what is it that causes people to instantly hit the back button?

Well this first in a series of article writing tips focuses on your name, quite simple, but in my opinion, if your name doesn’t look professional could cause people to instantly hit that back button.

Take a look at the picture here.  Notice the author name is in blue right under the title?  Well, guess what, the reader is going to see that real quick.  Make sure it’s a name that looks trustworthy.

Maybe you, or your friends think it’s cool to have a name “DippyGirl18″, but guess what, any reader who see’s that has a very real chance of hitting that back button.

You have to present yourself as an authority, a person the reader can trust.  Unfortunately the reader will see this way before all that good information in your article.  So don’t ruin your chances for making money.

There”s a setting on your profile page to display your real name instead of your login name, if you chose a less than trustworthy looking name than I think it would serve you well to change it to your real name.

Under ‘Edit Profile’ there’s a little button you can click to display your first and last name.

If you’re getting lots of views but few clicks this could be the reason why.  Try changing your name for a few weeks to see what happens.

When it comes to article writing tips this is one that I feel is the most important, don’t give people a reason to hit that back button before they even read one word of your article!

Change your name and give an air of authority!

That’s a great tip, Norman! Now that I think about it, a lot of the higher-earning eHow writers that I’ve read about are also showing their real names. I’m off to change my eHow account! :-)
